Lia Rumma Gallery is pleased to present Untitled (Izanami) at booth U14. Conceived by Vanessa Beecroft and featuring Bianca Censori in the role of Izanami, the work is presented as an immersive installation in which a set from the film is incorporated into the exhibition space. Extending the cinematic narrative into the physical realm, the installation includes five white plaster sculptures—Lying Body, Waist Fragment, Leg Fragment, Lying Torso Fragment, and Standing Torso Fragment—together with a hospital bed, chair, and lamp. Inspired by Persephone’s descent into Hades and reimagined within a vast, semi-abandoned hotel near Tokyo, the work unfolds through themes of ritual, confinement, and transformation. Set in Japan yet resonating with Greek mythology, it evokes a final passage into darkness, where identity is dissolved and reconstituted through an encounter with the unknown.
