Triumphs and Laments is a site-specific artwork, 500 meters long, depicting about 80 figures, up to 10 meters high, which give life to a procession of silhouettes along the Tiber, in the stretch between Ponte Sisto and Ponte Mazzini (Tiber Square).
The figures represent reinterpretations by the artist of an iconographic selection of historical figures and facts that have marked the millenary history of Rome from the classical and mythical age to the modern events of the most recent past. In this narrative "glory and shame are shown together, at the same time" telling "the heart of disaster that pulsates in every moment of triumph" because "in the triumph of someone always lurks the disaster of someone else" (Kentridge).
