Gary Hill will speak about his latest works on March 12, 2025, at 6:00 PM and will discuss key questions of his artistic practice with the curators of the exhibition Gary Hill. A Question of Perception, Holger Broeker and Elena Engelbrechter. Gary Hill’s works have significantly influenced video art since the 1970s, placing image, language, and sound in new contexts. In his lecture, Gary Hill will provide insights into his current projects, particularly his experimental use of camera drones to reflect on his own creative process. The subsequent discussion will offer an opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with the artist.

The Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea in Milan presents the first major solo exhibition in Italy of Iranian artist Shirin Neshat (1957, Qazvin), winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1999, the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival in 2009, and the Praemium Imperiale in Tokyo in 2017. The exhibition traces over thirty years of her career through nearly two hundred photographic works and a dozen video installations, now part of major museum collections worldwide, including the Whitney Museum, MoMA, the Guggenheim in New York, and Tate Modern. Neshat interprets history and contemporary issues—not only of her home country, Iran, but of the world—through the lens of women. From her early 1990s "Women of Allah" series, featuring female bodies inscribed with poetic calligraphy, to "The Fury", a video installation that foreshadowed the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement, her work explores complex narratives. However, her research goes beyond gender issues, using the duality of men and women as a starting point to examine themes of belonging and exile, health and mental distress, dream and reality. "Freeing the Voices" is an exhibition about being in tune with the world. The voice is a tool for healing, connection and resistance – for speaking out. It is also about listening to ourselves and to others, human and non-human voices. Just as we express ourselves with our voices, listening implies care and attention to the other – but also obedience to authority. Our voices are grounded, yet at the same time related to many different contexts.   Although there is no such thing as our own authentic voice, the liberation of our individual and collective voice is the focus of the works exhibited here. Liberating our voices does not mean finding a self-hood to which our voice perfectly corresponds. What we really liberate with the voice is our relationship to the world.

For the first time in their history, the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam are joining forces to stage a major exhibition of one of the most important artists of our time: Anselm Kiefer. From his childhood, Kiefer has had a special connection to the work of Vincent Van Gogh. To this day, Kiefer's admiration for Van Gogh is visibly present in his work. Especially for this exhibition, Kiefer has created new works that have never been seen before. Of course, popular favourites from the collections of both museums are also on display. At the Van Gogh Museum, famous paintings by Vincent Van Gogh will be shown along with works by Kiefer. At the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, you will see all the Kiefers from the collection together for the first time.

On March 9, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Fondazione VOLUME! presents "Trattoria ideale", a work by Paolo Icaro, curated by Lorenzo Benedetti. An action by Paolo Icaro that transforms the spaces of VOLUME! into a place of sharing and connection. Paolo Icaro (1936) turns the spaces of VOLUME! into an "ideal trattoria", creating a convivial environment inspired by the welcoming atmosphere of a traditional trattoria. This exhibition space is reimagined as a place of exchange, where words, images, and sounds intertwine to stimulate the senses and dialogue.

The exhibition "Emotional Intelligences" explores emotions as a fundamental form of social intelligence, emphasizing their importance in an era dominated by artificial intelligence and indifference. Inspired by Daniel Goleman’s book "Emotional Intelligence", it invites reflection on the value of empathy in human relationships. Featuring artworks from the 1990s to the present, many from the Mart Collections, the exhibition creates connections between contemporary art and psychological sciences, also including site-specific interventions and local loans. The project is the result of a collaboration with students from the University of Trento, who actively participated in the curatorial process as part of the "Officina Espositiva" program, working closely with Mart professionals.
